Climate Change and Water: Friends or Foes?

Perspectives from the World Meteorological Organization by Michel Jarraud, WMO Secretary-General.

UNESCO-IHE, the City of Delft and the Delfland Water Board hereby cordially invite you to attend the UN Water Talks 2013 on Wednesday 24 April at UNESCO-IHE in Delft. This year’s talk will be held by World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General, Michel Jarraud. He will reflect on global climate change issues, including the humanitarian implications, adaptation and development needs as well as WMO’s role and response regarding these issues and answer questions from the audience.

About Michel Jarraud

Michel Jarraud is a scientist and a meteorologist with degrees from the prestigious French Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole de la Météorologie Nationale. He was appointed Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization in 2004 and is currently serving his final 4-year term as Head of the Organization.

Before joining the WMO, Mr Jarraud devoted part of his career to the internationally renowned European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

He started his career with the French National Meteorological Service, Météo France, as a researcher and then as Director of the Weather Forecasting Department. Last year he also assumed the position of Chairperson of UN-Water, a mechanism to strengthen coordination and coherence among UN agencies that work on all aspects of freshwater and sanitation.

About UN Water Talks

UN Water Talks is an annually organized event whereby current and former dignitaries of the United Nations are asked to reflect on a variety of current issues related to water. UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education launched this initiative together with the City of Delft and the Delfland Water Board to inspire young professionals who are to become the next generation of water leaders from developing countries and countries in transition.
